Women's Softball in Gozo is back

After an absence of eight years, Women's Softball is back on Gozo.  The first softball session was held last Saturday, at Kercem Field, the home of the Gozo Tornadoes Baseball & Softball Club.  Charlie Attard has taken over the softball team, in hopes to revive sporting opportunities for female Gozitan athletes, which unfortunately are almost extinct on the tiny island.  The Gozo team is now the third female softball club under the MABS' (Malta Baseball & Softball Association) umbrella.  Attard hopes to have a fully-competitive team for the 2013 Fast-Pitch Softball season, plus, participating the the two tournaments held by MABS around mid-2012.

Our next softball session will be held at Kercem Field on Saturday, the 3rd of March, between 12:30PM and 2:15PM.  Beginners are more than welcome.  Those of ages 13 and older could come over this Saturday and practice for free with the team.  Girls who are 12 and younger could also contact us for Under 12 sessions.  Those interested could contact Charlie Attard at 79061482, or by sending an email to gozobaseball@gmail.com.  You could also contact us by sending us a message on facebook and become a member https://www.facebook.com/groups/gozobaseball/

MABS PR: Gozo Triumph in Open Slow Pitch Tournament

MABS Vice-President, Patrick Pace, presenting
the 2011 Open Slow-Pitch Softball Trophy to
 Gozo Tornadoes' captain, Charles Attard

The second and final day of the tournament provided great softball as the team from Gozo took home the trophy. Winning their three games of the day gave the Gozo Tornadoes an unbeaten tournament having won all six of the games.
The Northenders and Mustangs both provided a mix of good defence with strong offence, whilst the Devils once again proved they have one of the most solid defences in the tournament.

With Gozo having won their first two games of the day, pressure was put on the Mustangs to maintain their winning form. This came to an end in their first game of the day against the Devils. The 8-4 loss effectively meant that Gozo had won the tournament.

Results Day 2

Northenders vs Gozo Tornadoes 2 -4
Gozo Tornadoes vs Devils 5-2
Mustangs vs Devils 4-8
Northenders vs Mustangs 3-5
Gozo Tornadoes vs Mustangs 5-0
Devils vs Mustangs 7-4

Tornadoes Dominate the First Leg of Softball Tournament

The first day of the tournament, hosted by the Gozo Tornadoes Baseball & Softball Club provided great fun and some exciting softball for the day.  A total of four teams are participating in the tournament, which attracted over fifty players and an equivalent number of spectators to the Kercem Football Ground on Sunday.

Gozo took advantage of their home ground and won all three scheduled games, whilst the Mustangs provided a surprise 2 wins and 1 loss for the day.  Mellieha provided solid hitting and were the only team to produce 2 home runs, one of which was a Grand Slam during the six games played yesterday.  At the bottom of the standing are the Devils, which came to the tournament without three of their first players.  Despite this the Devils put up a good fight and showed the most consistent defensive plays.  The Devils simply lacked power hitters in their line-up which was predominately female.

The Final Round of the tournament will be held on the 18th December at the Mellieha Field.
